Sunlit Solar Highlights: August’s Top Installations

August brought another varied month of solar installations across Somerset, from straightforward rooftop arrays to larger systems combining solar with battery storage.

Each property presents something slightly different, whether that’s the available roof space, household energy use or plans for battery storage and EV charging. That’s why every system we install is designed around the property and customer’s needs, rather than being based on a standard package.

Here are a few of the installations that stood out for our local, family-run Somerset team during August.

With a large roof area available, this commercial system was designed to generate a significant amount of the site’s electricity on-site. Pairing the solar array with a SolarEdge EV charger also allows more of that renewable energy to be used directly for vehicle charging, helping reduce reliance on grid electricity.


Solar for a New-Build Home

This new-build property offered a good opportunity to incorporate solar and battery storage from the outset. The standing seam roof provided a clean, practical surface for the array, while the addition of battery storage means more of the home’s solar-generated electricity can be used when it is needed rather than exported straight to the grid.

This installation made effective use of a large flat-roof area, with the array carefully arranged to maximise the space available. Adding battery storage means more of the solar energy generated during the day can be kept for use later, helping the household rely less on electricity from the grid.

This new-build project was a good example of designing solar around the architecture from the outset. The array was carefully split across several roof areas to make effective use of the available space, while the in-roof installation gives a neat, integrated finish that sits naturally within the overall design of the property.

This installation was carefully planned around the property’s existing rooflights, making good use of the available roof area without compromising the layout of the home. An EV charger was also included, giving the household the option to use more of its own solar-generated electricity for everyday driving.

This installation was designed to make full use of both roof pitches, helping the household generate solar energy across a wider part of the day. Battery storage and EV charging were added too, giving the customer more flexibility over how that energy is stored and used at home, including for vehicle charging.

This installation shows how a well-planned system can make good use of the roof space available, with the panels arranged neatly across the main pitch. Battery storage was also added, helping the household keep more of its solar-generated electricity for use later in the day rather than sending it straight back to the grid.
