At Sunlit Solar, our mission is to make clean, renewable energy accessible to as many people as possible across Somerset and beyond. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Green Wedmore on the Solar Challenge 1000 – a community-driven initiative with the ambitious goal of 1,000 solar roofs in the Somerset village of Wedmore by 2030. To help Green Wedmore reach their goal, Sunlit Solar is offering residents a 10% discount on solar installations as part of the scheme – making it even easier to switch to clean, renewable energy.

Empowering Somerset with Solar Energy
With the help of local residents, businesses and ethical lending support from Lendology, this initiative is already making a huge impact, helping homeowners cut their energy bills while reducing carbon emissions for a sustainable future.
How Far We’ve Come
Launched in 2021, the Solar Challenge 1000 has already made incredible progress with Somerset solar at its heart. At the time of writing (Feb 25), it has delivered:
✅ 260 homes in Wedmore now have solar panels installed (16% of the village)
✅ Sunlit Solar has installed 108 solar systems as part of this campaign
✅ This equates to 722kW of solar power, with another 178kW coming soon.
This makes Wedmore home to one of the most successful community solar initiatives in Somerset, outpacing similar schemes across the region.
Why This Initiative Matters
The Solar Challenge 1000 is about more than just panels on roofs – it’s about creating a local movement for a greener future. This initiative:
✔️ Lowers household energy bills (with a typical payback period of around 7 years)
✔️ Reduces residents’ carbon footprint
✔️ Funds future green projects, thanks to Sunlit Solar’s donation to Green Wedmore for every system they install.
Plus, through Green Wedmore‘s partnership with Lendology, homeowners who need financial support can access ethical lending to make going solar more affordable.
